The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered sweeping victories in the Assam Assembly elections, with several of its candidates winning by record margins, underscoring a strong mandate across regions.Â
Â
The top five winning margins reflect not only electoral dominance but also the party's deepening connect with diverse Assembly constituencies in the state, party sources on Tuesday.Â
Â
Leading the vote tally is Assam Minister Kaushik Rai from Lakhipur, who secured a massive margin of 99,401 votes.Â
Â
Lakhipur, located in the Barak Valley's Cachar district, has traditionally seen multi-cornered contests, but Rai's decisive victory signals a consolidation of support in the Bengali-majority belt, where development issues and connectivity have remained key electoral themes.Â
Â
In Jagiroad, Minister Pijush Hazarika won by a margin of 93,548 votes.Â
Â
The Assembly constituency, situated in Morigaon district, is known for its industrial base, particularly the Nagaon Paper Mill area, and a mix of rural and semi-urban voters.Â
Â
Hazarika's performance reflects the BJP's continued strength in central Assam, aided by infrastructure push and welfare outreach.
Â
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma retained his Jalukbari seat with a margin of 89,434 votes.Â
Â
Jalukbari, an urban Assam constituency in Guwahati, has long been considered a BJP stronghold.Â
Â
Chief Minister Sarma's victory here once again highlights his personal popularity and the party's firm grip over urban voters, driven by governance, civic improvements, and policy initiatives.Â
Â
In southern Assam's Ramakrishna Nagar, Bijoy Malakar, won by 83,765 votes.Â
Â
The Assembly constituency, also in the Barak Valley, has a significant rural population, and the BJP's strong showing indicates sustained support among grassroots voters, particularly on issues of welfare schemes and local development.
Â
Meanwhile, in the tribal-dominated Jonai constituency, Bhuban Pegu emerged victorious with a margin of 80,124 votes.Â
Â
Located in Dhemaji district along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, Jonai is a Scheduled Tribe (ST) reserved seat.Â
Â
Pegu's win reflects the BJP's growing outreach among tribal communities, supported by targeted welfare measures and infrastructure development in border areas.Â
Â
These record margins across geographically and demographically varied Assembly constituencies highlight the BJP's broad-based appeal in Assam, cutting across urban, rural, and tribal belts, and reinforcing its position as the dominant political force in the state.
Â
The overall results reflected a decisive mandate in favour of the BJP, which won 82 out of the 126 seats in the Assam Assembly.Â
Â
The Congress lagged behind with 19 seats, while regional parties such as the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured 10 seats each.Â
Â
The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Raijor Dal managed to win two seats each, while the Trinamool Congress opened its account with a single seat.
