Two individuals were injured in separate snakebite incidents in the Rajnagar block area of Belonia subdivision, triggering panic and concern among local residents.
Â
The victims have been identified as; Prosenjit Majumder (21), a resident of Wangcherra and Paramita Nandi (24), from Sonapur in Barpathari.
Â
Both were initially rushed to the Barpathari Primary Health Centre, where they received first aid. Subsequently, they were shifted to Belonia sub-divisional hospital for advanced treatment. Medical officials have confirmed that both patients are in stable condition and there is no immediate cause for alarm. However, as a precautionary measure, they have been referred to Santirbazar District Hospital for further care.
Â
The incidents have sparked widespread concern in the region, especially as snake activity has reportedly increased in and around the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary area of Rajnagar. Locals have noted the presence of both venomous and non-venomous snake species across the region.
Â
According to Prasenjit, he was bitten while retrieving a goat from a rubber plantation. Paramita’s father reported that his daughter and wife were bitten while fishing in their household pond.
Â
Authorities and health officials are urging residents to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to wildlife encounters, and to seek immediate medical attention in case of snakebite incidents.
