Agartala Jan 20: Former Pradesh Congress president Gopal Roy on Friday said the common citizens especially the farmers, unemployed, labour class among others has been hit hard and claimed that the state has moved ‘back by 50 years’ under the current dispensation.
Speaking at the sidelines of a “Padyatra” of the party in view of the ensuing assembly elections in the state in barely less than a month, Gopal Roy launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government in Tripura and alleged that administrative machinery has been used to silence opposition voices, while faulty policies have led to an increase in poverty in the state.
“BJP is still day dreaming that it will win the upcoming polls. They must wake up at the earliest and realize that using ‘bike-forces’ elections can’t be won. People of Tripura have enough courage and therefore ignoring all sorts of fear they will come out and exercise their democratic rights”, he said.
“There is no place for democracy and the Constitution under Modi government, and the people are repenting why they voted BJP to power in 2018. But now people will mend up their fault and oust the party that gave them nothing except false promises”, he added.
Roy further claimed, “The BJP came to power in Tripura by making a host of promises, but none of which has been fulfilled yet”.
In the name of “Double-engine” government, BJP gave the people of Tripura, inflation, hiked prices of essential commodities, unemployment instead of development.
The former TPCC president claimed that Congress will form the government in the forthcoming polls.
