As part of her three‑day visit to Tripura, T. Thakur Khalkho, Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, visited the Unakoti District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) on Friday to review and witness the progress of women‑driven livelihood initiatives supported by the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM).
Khalkho was accompanied by TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, District Magistrate and Collector Megha Jain, and senior TRLM officials. The delegation toured several enterprises established under TRLM’s guidance, including a Packaging Unit, a Training Centre supported by USHA, an Aggregation Centre, Sampanna – a natural farming initiative, and the Sanjog Canteen.
During her interactions, Khalkho observed how Self‑Help Group (SHG) members are building sustainable livelihoods through enterprise development, skill enhancement, natural farming, value addition, and collective initiatives. She praised the women for their determination and highlighted the importance of such interventions in strengthening rural economies and promoting self‑reliance.
The visit also showcased the growing role of women in community‑based enterprises. Khalkho engaged directly with SHG members, listening to their experiences of how TRLM support has enabled them to diversify income sources, improve household stability, and contribute to local development.
Officials noted that the initiatives reflect the broader goals of the National Rural Livelihood Mission, which seeks to empower women through collective action and entrepreneurship. The emphasis on natural farming, skill training, and value‑added products is seen as a pathway to sustainable growth in rural Tripura.
The review has generated optimism among SHG members and local stakeholders, who believe that the Union official’s visit will strengthen support for expanding livelihood programmes and ensure greater visibility for women’s contributions to rural development.
