Agartala, July 22: Senior leader of the opposition CPI-M party Pabitra Kar on Friday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for unveiling the national emblem cast on the roof of the new Parliament building and accused him of violating the principle of the Indian constitution.
He wondered why outgoing President Ramnath Kovind who was supposed to unveil the national emblem as a constitutional head was kept away from the function.
Slamming PM Modi for conducting a puja before the unveiling ceremony, Kar said the national emblem installation should not be linked to religious ceremonies. Also, “graceful and regally confident” Ashoka’s lions were replaced with those having menacing and aggressive posture, he felt.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala the CPI-M leader announced that at least 5 different union of the CPI-M party including Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, trade union, Ganamukti Parishad and others will jointly take the initiative of hoisting the national flag at 12:01 pm across the state on August 14 and take oath of protection of the Indian Constitution.
“We shall all come forward to protect our constitution which is being looted and spoiled by the BJP government,” Kar said, adding that oath shall be taken on August 14 next over protection of Indian Constitution and as part of this every family of the supporters of the CPI-M party will light candles at their houses.
On a different note, Kar told reporters that the five unions of the CPI-M party also took an initiative of organising seminars across the state from August 1 till August 14 next to highlight the actual freedom fighters of the country, who are being suppressed from the history of Indian freedom movement by the BJP party.
The initiative has been taken up in the run up of the government celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark 75 years of Indian independence. Now, that the country will celebrate the Independence Day on August 15 next with 76 years of Indian independence, the CPI-M unions had decided to make the general public aware of the actual freedom fighters of the country, Kar told reporters.
