As part of the nationwide commemoration of 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram, the West District Administration of Tripura hosted a special celebratory event at Muktadhara Auditorium on Friday. The occasion was graced by Power, Agriculture, and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee.
Â
Addressing the gathering, Minister Ratan Lal Nath reflected on the enduring legacy of Vande Mataram, first penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875. “Even after 150 years, these two words continue to stir the hearts of millions of Indians. It is not just a song—it is the voice of our national consciousness, a symbol of unity, and a source of inspiration in our freedom struggle,” he said. He urged the younger generation to embrace Vande Mataram as a pledge of eternal respect and love for the motherland.
Â
To deepen awareness among students, the minister engaged schoolchildren in discussions about the song’s historical and cultural significance, encouraging them to explore its roots and meaning.
Â
MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, in his address, described Bankim Chandra Chatterjee not merely as a writer of words, but as a visionary who shaped the future of a united India—awakened in devotion, driven by purpose, and bound by pride. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and deep reverence for India’s heritage, noting that the nationwide celebration of Vande Mataram is helping citizens rediscover its importance. “India is now globally recognized, and our freedom fighters are receiving the honor they deserve,” he added.
Â
Both Minister Nath and MP Bhattacharjee urged every citizen, especially young generation, to take this opportunity to learn about India’s glorious history and the sacrifices made during the freedom movement.
Â
Let us all come together, participate actively, and ensure that the significance of Vande Mataram reaches every household, every school, and every heart, said Minister Nath.
Â
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar, West Tripura Zilla Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil along with other dignitaries remained present at the program.
