Kumarghat, Feb 27: The vegetable, fish and meat vendors in Rajkandi Bazaar, under Fatikroy constituency of Unakoti district, are struggling due to the lack of a permanent shed.
Despite being one of the oldest markets of the area, vendors are forced to operate under the open sky, locals traders claimed.
Senior trader Sadhan Deb stated that farmers from nearby areas bring their produce to this market, but the absence of adequate sheds creates difficulties, especially during the monsoon.
While a few sheds exist, they are occupied by fabric and cosmetics sellers, he added.
Meat vendor Achinta Debbarma raised similar concerns, that temporary tarpaulin covers are often blown away by strong winds.
Though the market saw the construction of two sheds during the Left regime, they are now insufficient, Debbarma added.
Despite seven years of the current administration, no new sheds have been built which caused growing frustration among traders and customers.
The vendors urged authorities to construct permanent sheds to ensure a stable business environment.
