Vice President of India arrives in Tripura on two-day visit

Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, arrived in Tripura on Saturday afternoon on a two-day visit to the state. He reached Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport by a special aircraft.

The Vice President was received at the airport by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and Superintendent of Police, West- Namit Pathak.

In honour of the Vice President, a cultural programme was organised in the evening at the Durbar Hall of Lok Bhavan.

The programme was attended by the Governor and Chief Minister along with Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Assembly Ramprasad Paul, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and other dignitaries.

Chief Justice of Tripura High Court M. S. Ramachandra Rao, Justice T. Amarnath Goud and Justice S.D. Purkayastha, Advocate General Shaktimoy Chakraborty, along with senior officials of the state administration and armed forces, were also present.

At the Lok Bhavan, he was welcomed by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu. Personnel of Tripura State Rifles presented him with a Guard of Honour. In the evening, the Vice President planted a Rudraksha sapling in the Lok Bhavan premises.

On Sunday, the Vice President will attend the 14th convocation ceremony of Tripura University. He will also visit stalls set up by Self Help Groups at the Indoor Hall of the International Fair Ground in Hapania and interact with SHG members and ‘Lakhpati Didis’. The Vice President will also pay floral tribute to Param Vir Chakra awardee Albert Ekka at Albert Ekka Park.
