Villagers demand probe into alleged irregularities in 'Amrit Sarovar' Project in South Tripura

Anger is mounting in South Tripura’s Santirbazar subdivision after allegations of corruption surfaced in the approval of an Amrit Sarovar project at Patichhari ADC Village, Bokafa RD Block. The project, worth Rs 62.73 lakh, was reportedly sanctioned in the name of a deceased individual, sparking widespread calls for accountability.

TTAADC MDC Padma Lochan Tripura, joined by a delegation from Patichhari, submitted a written complaint to the District Magistrate of South Tripura, demanding a full investigation. The complaint alleges that the project was approved in the name of late Premananda Murasing, son of late Haripada Murasing, despite the family not being permanent residents of the village.

Residents say the sanctioning process raises serious doubts about transparency in local governance. Many fear that forest officials, panchayat representatives, and individuals close to the area’s MLA may have played a role in pushing the project through.

The controversy comes amid reports that three Amrit Sarovar projects are currently underway in the Santirbazar constituency, overseen by South Zone DFO Narayan Jamatia. Allegations of irregularities in earlier check dam projects have also resurfaced, with locals questioning how resolutions are being prepared and approved.

Adding to the concerns, the complaint points out that bulldozers and other heavy machinery were used during implementation—actions strictly prohibited under MGNREGA guidelines. Villagers claim video evidence exists and may be submitted to the administration.

Padma Lochan Tripura has urged the District Magistrate to act swiftly, calling for strict legal measures against those responsible. “This is not just about one project; it is about protecting public interest and ensuring that development funds are not misused,” he said.

The allegations have cast a shadow over welfare initiatives in the region, with villagers demanding transparency and impartial investigations to restore trust in government programmes.
