Water, power, road woes: Villagers block road
Gandacherra, Nov 10, 2022, TRIPURATIMES Desk
Gandacheera Nov 10: People of Jati and Janajati communities blocked the Gandachhera-Ambassa road at Bish Card of Haripura village under Gandachhera on Thursday demanding regular water and electric supply as well as renovation of roads. Officials from the Gandachhera SDM office, DWS and Power department rushed to the spot and held prolonged discussions with the villagers.
The villagers alleged they are suffering from a water and power crisis for several years – the road condition is also pathetic.
The road blockade threw the traffic out of gear. As it was a weekly Haat Baar at Gandachhera today, vehicles on both sides of the road at Bish Card area remained stranded.
“We submitted several petitions to the concerned authorities detailing our plights. However, nothing happened to improve the situation. We are forced to collect water from the rivulets and drink the impure water. As a result, people especially, the children often suffer from water-borne diseases”, the villagers alleged.
The officials assured the villagers and said, the work of deep-tube wells is currently underway in their area and will be completed in the next few days. After that, there will be no problem with drinking water in the area. Officials also said that drinking water will be supplied to the area through tankers till the works of the deep-tube well are completed.
Later, the villagers withdrew from the road blockade agitation.
