Water Woes: All India Nari Samiti places deputation on 6-point demands

Agartala June 02: Constant crisis of water has added to the worst sufferings especially for women across the state.
A group of women leaders on behalf of Abhoynagar Anchal Nari Samiti, Tripura State Unit placed deputation to the Executive Engineer, DWS Division Agartala at Abhoynagar office over acute water crisis impacting a large number of families across the state as Tripura continues to grapple with an intense heatwave.
Even when the state government and its concerned authorities have repeatedly claimed massive success in providing house to house water connections under various central government schemes, protests, deputations, road blockades demanding pure drinking water has emerged as a daily occurrence in Tripura.
Speaking to the reporters the women leaders said, “Earlier we used to get water two times for at least 1.5 hours. But now, it is less than an hour in the morning, flow of water is slow and moreover the water is contaminated with iron and algal content. Besides, most of the time, water is not provided in the evening hours”.
“In these scorching summer days, people are finding hard to meet their daily basic requirement of water”, she added.
The women leaders further added that there are several water connections that are not working.
However, the west Tripura district DWS division executive engineer, D Dasgupta assured the women that the issues will be resolved within next 6 months.
