Agartala, Jan 10: With the assembly polls round the corner, the political temperature continues to rise in Tripura.
All the major political parties have intensified their organizational activities across the state well before the announcement of the election.
The star campaigners of various political parties including ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also started arriving in the state and taking part in the poll campaign.
The political scenario is also taking another turn as the regional political party- Tipra Motha, now ruling the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, visibly withdrew its political activities over the past few days. According to political experts, it is a significant political development which may go in favour of BJP.
The Tipra Motha chief- Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has almost gone out of this political battle following “health reasons”.
On the other hand, the BJP launched a full-fledged campaign with participation of various central leaders. First Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a government programme and then Home Minister Amit Shah launched BJP’s Jan Viswas Yatras from two districts- North and South Tripura.
The duo already set the tune for the election while Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other leaders are moving to various places to strengthen the party’s campaign. Dr. Saha is taking part in high-voltage Jana Viswas Yatra and visibly receiving a huge response from the people. The Chief Minister also started campaigning door-to-door in the 8-Town Bordowali constituency.
BJP star campaigners- Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and MP Locket Chatterjee already campaigned in the state while Bollywood star Mithun Chakraborty also arrived in the state on Tuesday.
On the other hand CPI-M’s national secretary Sitaram Yechury and Politburo member Prakash Karat also arrived in the state. Earlier, Brinda Karat and Meenakshi Mukherjee already campaigned in favour of the Left Front.
In the case of Congress, the poll campaign is yet to gain momentum. MLA Sudip Roy Barman is reportedly getting ready to give a tough fight. The Congress party, according to sources, is also planning to take some central leaders including Rahul Gandhi for strengthening the campaign.
On the other hand, as it seems, Trinamool Congress has lost its importance in Tripura politics. The party has recently got Pijush Kanti Biswas as the new state president but there is no major political activity visible from TMC.
Apart from campaigning, all the political parties are also getting prepared to field candidates while the ruling BJP is reportedly facing some issues in selecting candidates for a few seats over difference of opinion. As the election is knocking at the door, the political parties are setting their eyes to win the battle although BJP is leading the pre-poll campaign.
