An allegation has been raised against a section of BJP workers at Sachindralal area in Charipara under Badharghat assembly constituency of Tripura for physically assaulting a woman who is reportedly a Congress supporter.
Tripura Congress president Birajit Sinha said, the local Congress party office at Sachindralal was vandalized by a group local BJP workers on July 22 last and woman had captured the video.
“The woman became a target of the BJP workers and she was under tremendous pressure after she captured the video. The woman met AICC leader Szarita Laitphlang at Congress Bhavan on Saturday and she then sent her to MLA Sudip Roy Barman,” Sinha said.
On Sunday morning, the woman was asked to give her mobile phone to the local BJP workers at Sachindralal. As she refused to give her mobile, she was beaten up, Sinha said, adding that police from Amtali police station had reached the spot after receiving information on the incident but the woman was again physically assaulted in front of the police.
Finally, the victim was taken to IGM hospital and then she was referred to GBP hospital, according to Sinha, who met the victim along with AICC general secretary Szarita Laitphlang and former MLA Ashis Saha in the hospital.
A case has been lodged at Amtali police station regarding today’s incident and the Congress leaders demanded stern action against the culprits.
Speaking to the media, the AICC general secretary alleged the local MLA had passed an instruction so that police don’t register any case.
