Women's power driving self-reliant Tripura: 221 SHGs hold AGM in Kalyanpur Block

The dream of building a self-reliant Tripura through women’s empowerment took a decisive step forward in Kalyanpur RD Block, where the Narishakti Cluster comprising 221 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) convened a landmark Annual General Meeting (AGM). 

The gathering was not only a review of past achievements but also a roadmap for strengthening women’s economic independence, expanding livelihood opportunities, and consolidating the role of SHGs in shaping resilient communities.

The AGM opened with a detailed account of the past year’s activities, successes, and challenges. Members shared how SHGs have enabled women to generate income, support households, and contribute to local economies. 

The meeting then turned to future strategies—creating new employment opportunities, encouraging small-scale entrepreneurship, expanding access to credit, and ensuring that women’s skills are harnessed for sustainable growth.

Speakers emphasised that SHGs are not just uplifting individual families but fortifying the social and economic fabric of Tripura. By uniting rural women and harnessing their talents, SHGs are proving to be a powerful instrument of transformation. “The stronger the women, the stronger the family, society, and economy,” one participant remarked, capturing the spirit of the event.

The AGM was attended by prominent figures including social worker Nitai Bal, Kalyanpur RD Block Chairman Soumen Gope, panchayat leaders, social activists, and block officials. They highlighted that women’s empowerment through SHGs is directly linked to the prosperity of families, communities, and the state’s economy.

The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as SHG members exchanged experiences and pledged to continue their journey towards self-reliance. Organisers noted that empowerment through SHGs is not only about financial independence but also about social transformation, cultural identity, and collective strength.
