Anger spilled onto the streets Saturday as nearly 200 workers facing termination joined a protest outside the Tripura Forest Development and Plantation Corporation (TFDPC) office, under the banner of the Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Sangh.
Â
The demonstration was sparked by a recent notice circulated across several centres, directing the removal of a section of workers — many of whom have served the corporation for 10 to 20 years. Union leaders denounced the move as unjust and arbitrary, accusing management of discarding long-serving employees without explanation.
Â
Later, a delegation of workers submitted a four-point memorandum to the Managing Director, demanding:
Â
Financial compensation for retrenched workers, calculated on the basis of monthly wages and years of service.
Introduction of a “Rainy Day Allowance” to support employees during lean periods.
Assurance that at least 70 percent of future recruitment will be drawn from skilled workers already associated with the corporation.
Removal of redundant and over-aged staff to create opportunities for educated youth.
Â
Union representatives warned that unless their demands are addressed, the agitation will intensify. The protest has drawn attention to the broader issue of job security and fair treatment of long-serving employees, placing pressure on the corporation to respond.
Â
This development has turned the spotlight on TFDPC’s labour policies, with workers insisting that their voices be heard before any restructuring moves forward.
