Agartala/ Gandachhera, Dec 01: With the joint initiative of Tripura State AIDS Control Society and the Health and Family Welfare department in collaboration with State NSS Cell, a mass rally was organized in Agartala on Thursday to mark World AIDS Day-2022.
The inaugural program was organized at the Umakanta Academy ground.
Speaking on the occasion, Debashish Basu, Health secretary, Govt. of Tripura said, “Rising cases of HIV positive across the state is a matter of concern. There are at least 3,546 people across the state affected with HIV AIDS”.
“AIDS can be eradicated only through awareness among the people”, he added.
Basu further said everyone should contribute to the cause of making Tripura AIDS free.
The rally was based on the theme “Equalize: Unite to end the inequalities holding back the end of AIDS” here on Thursday on the occasion of World AIDS Day.
Our Gandachhera Correspondent adds: Along with the entire state, Gandachara sub-division also celebrated World AIDS Day on Thursday.
An awareness rally was organized under the initiative of Gandachhera Government University.
Students, teachers and others including health department officials from Gandachhera Higher Secondary school participated in the awareness rally.
While discussing there, Secretary of Gandachhera Government University Teachers Association Prabir Chakraborty said that the real purpose of the day's rally is to create awareness among the people about what preventive measures need to be taken for diseases like HIV or AIDS adding that AIDS patients should not be isolated from the society.
Similar programs were also held in various parts across the state including Teliamura.
