World Clubfoot Day observed at North Tripura District Hospital with awareness drive

World Clubfoot Day was marked with a special awareness programme at the Clubfoot Clinic of North Tripura District Hospital, jointly organized by the hospital and Anuska Foundation. 

The event placed the spotlight on raising public awareness about clubfoot, a congenital condition where a child is born with twisted feet, and highlighted the importance of early, non-surgical treatment through the globally recognized Ponseti Method.

Medical experts including District Hospital Superintendent Dr. Bhaskar Das, Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Raja Nag, RBSK Medical Officer Dr. Niladri Sekhar Chatterjee, Dr. Biswajit Chakraborty, Dr. Pritam Debnath, casting technician Nabendu Chanda, and Anuska Foundation’s program executive Shyam Shankar Deb attended the programme.

Speakers emphasized that while clubfoot is a congenital problem, timely treatment can help most children lead normal lives without surgery. The Ponseti Method, involving gentle manipulation, plaster casting, and the use of special braces, was described as the “gold standard” in treatment worldwide.

The observance coincided with the birth anniversary of Spanish orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ignacio Ponseti, whose pioneering technique has transformed clubfoot treatment globally. Doctors and health workers urged families to seek early medical intervention and spread awareness so that no child suffers lifelong disability due to lack of timely care.

The event reinforced the message that early treatment and public awareness are key to overcoming this condition, while also showcasing Tripura’s commitment to improving child healthcare through community-driven initiatives.

This year’s observance at North Tripura District Hospital stood out for its focus on educating parents and caregivers, ensuring that the success stories of the Ponseti Method reach every household in the state.
