Agartala, Mar 11: The 7-member joint fact-finding team of Left Front and Congress team found that law and order collapsed after the Assembly polls in the State. The team will raise the issue in the parliament and submit a memorandum to the President to stop violence unleashed by the ruling BJP supporters against the opposition parties.
The team submitted a memorandum to Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya on Saturday before leaving for New Delhi.
In the memorandum submitted to the Governor, the team highlighted the ‘attack’ on the Fact-Finding Team at Nehalchandra Nagar as well as highlighted several incidences of violence that hit the people.
Terming the prevailing situation as a ‘horrendous state of law and order’, the team members urged the Governor to “move the entire administration to restore peace and remove political hostility. BJP being the ruling party of the state, it has a bigger responsibility in this sphere.
They also urged the Governor to “order the police authority to arrest the perpetrators involved in each and every incident of the political violence. Appropriate legal action may be taken against all the culprits accused of this inhuman violence.
They demanded that “Motor Workers/owners of E-Rickshwas, 3-wheelers, 4-wheelers, bus etc. who have been barred from plying vehicles in their scheduled routes must be allowed to resume plying their vehicles”.
The Fact Finding Team demanded government relief for all the victims who lost dwelling houses, lost professional resources to earn livelihood and caused a huge financial burden for treatment.
The Fact-finding Team arrived in Agartala on Friday on a two-day visit to probe the incidents of post-poll violence and interact with the affected people.
The team was "compelled to suspend its outdoor programmes scheduled for Saturday" after the visiting MPs and AICC leaders as well as MLAs were attacked allegedly by the BJP 'goons' when the team was visiting the violence-hit Nehalchandra Nagar Bazar in Bishalgarh on Friday.
Speaking to the media in Agartala, leader of the Fact-Finding Team leader - Elaram Karim, a Rajya Sabha MP, said this time the post-poll violence is showing a dangerous trend – the violence is not limited to physical attack but BJP-RSS goons are destroying the livelihood of Opposition party supporters.
Karim also said the present situation in the State is a reflection of ‘intolerance’ cultivated by the BJP-RSS.
