Agartala, Nov 13: Constitutional solution can only be achieved through constitutional means, not by political goondaism, said Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma.
While condemning the attack on BJP ST Morcha national president Samir Oraon at Burmura by Tipra Motha on Saturday night, he also mentioned in a social media post that those who speak of fundamental rights must also respect fundamental rights. He referred to Tupra Motha’s ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand without naming the party.
“I strongly condemn the attack on our BJP Janajati Morcha National President and MP Sh @SameerOraon16 ji by hooligans of a political party returning from a public meeting held in Agartala. Those who speak of fundamental rights must also respect fundamental rights,” he wrote.
He also mentioned, “Thansa (unity) cannot be achieved by Danda (hooliganism). Constitutional solution can only be achieved through constitutional means not by political goondaism like this.”
Meanwhile, police detained six persons on Sunday in connection with the attack on the BJP ST Morcha National president and other Janajati Morcha leaders. After the interrogation, the detained persons were released on bail.
Janajati Morcha state president Bikas Debbarma, MDC Bidyut Debbarma and ex-MDC Patiram Tripura were attacked near Borduar in Barmura while returning to Agartala after attending an organizational meeting at Kanchanpur on Saturday evening.
The state unit of BJP also condemned the attack.
Addressing a press meeting in Agartala on Sunday, Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia and party’s spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty slammed Tipra Motha for the attack.
Demanding punitive action against the goons, Jamatia said, BJP is working to maintain peace and tranquillity in the State – however, Lal Motha and Tipra Motha are conspiring to disrupt peace and wrest power through back door.
Echoing Jamatia’s view, Subrata Chakraborty said Lal Motha or Tipra Motha has clearly exposed that they believe in violence while BJP is working for peace and development of the State.
