Agartala Oct 25: Incessant rain and gusty wind throughout Monday marred the Diwali celebrations in the entire state.
Small and large trees across the state including the capital city cracked down with electric lines. Also in several places the pandal made for “Kali Puja” and lightening decorations collapsed.
Power cut hit the festival of lights with entire night out of electricity.
Specifying few incidents, Sitrang affected the “Kali Puja” rituals at Rabindra Bhavan area in capital city where the puja pandal collapsed because of gusty winds. Besides, the 41 feet tall “Kali” goddess in Jirania also fell apart.
Weather also betrayed small scale businessmen who faced severe losses due to storm and rains in Udaipur, Matabari.
Also many people especially in the remote villages lost their houses.
Common people who were in a hope to celebrate Diwali with zeal were left disheartened after the rain dampened the recent “Durga Puja” festivities as many sat at homes and could not go out for “Darshan” or pandal hopping.
However, no damage to human life has been reported yet.
The Tripura government had issued a red alert and cancelled the leaves of employees for this week after the state received heavy rain under the impact of Cyclone Si-Trang.
The weather report said rain is expected to intensify in the next 24 hours. The government advisory warned people not to venture outside their homes and keep the roads traffic free in case of any emergency.
All the government offices except for the emergency services were notified as virtual for Tuesday and employees were allowed to work from home apprehending a severe cyclone.
Moreover, the state government declared a holiday for all academic institutions till Oct 27.
Over 120 National Disaster Response Force (NDR) were airlifted to Tripura from Guwahati and were deployed in various districts to deal with the possible cyclonic situations.
