WHAT A MESS!

WHAT A MESS!

Kajal Chatterjee
Though the sheer callousness of the organisers, revolving around the visit of Lionel Messi, cannot be defended at any cost; but the violence perpetrated by the spectators are also equally condemnable.

After all, whatever be the gravity of grievance, nobody holds any right to take law in own hands and indulge in violence and destruction of property.

The spectators could have lodged their protest in non-violent fashion through mass application of refund of the precious tickets or knocked the Judiciary for feeling cheated and asking for compensation for not receiving the money's worth. But the brute crude show of muscles can never be endorsed in a supposedly civilised society.

While the violence "gifts" a very bad spectacle imparting shame upon the society which acts "civilised" ; but no way can it interpreted as "tarnishing" of Bengal or India's image before the world as being projected by BJP-led Opposition parties of West Bengal!

If 1984 Anti-Sikh Delhi annihilation, 2002 Anti-Muslim Gujarat pogrom, 2020 New Delhi arson, Kuki women getting paraded naked in Manipur, spine-chilling sexual horror in Kathua Hathras New Delhi ('Nirbhaya'), systematic murder of innocent Muslims by the cow vigilantes in Haryana Uttar Pradesh Rajasthan Jharkhand, annihilation of Narendra Dabholkars to Gouri Lankeshes from Maharashtra to Karnataka, burning the humanitarian Graham Stewart Steines and his two Angelic little children to death (by citing the falsehood of his involvement in "conversions") along with setting fire to a whole village of Bengalis (just because of one of them has allegedly killed a tribal woman) in Odisha's Keonjhar and Malkangiri district respectively, murdering Afrazul Khan by setting him in fire by invoking the myth of "Love Jihad" in Rajasthan, killing couples in inter-caste relationship in the name of "family honour", murder of innocents in the name of caste do/did not tarnish the image of India and the concerned states before the world - - - surely a stray incident of mob violence (kiling none) at the Salt Lake stadium would not "gift" such an embarrassment to India in international forum!

So before acting "Conscientious" and "Pious", the harbingers of "Good Days" must answer what saffron flag wielding Messi "lovers" were doing while invading the field with vulgar "war-cry" of 'Jai Shri Ram'!  And the "eternal holy" Left parties must answer West Bengal was being run by which dispensation on that "Bloody" day of 16th August 1980 when as many as 16 people died in a stampede-like situation at the Eden Gardens while watching Mohun Bagan East Bengal derby!

So while the chaotic violent spectacle at the Salt Lake stadium must be condemned, but one should not go overboard and the political critics must also have a look towards its own Black Record in various sectors before politicising a callous, but inadvertent, mismanagement scenario revolving around the Messi visit, so as to reap electoral dividend.
