Kailashahar, May 04: Basic amenities like drinking water, road connectivity and electricity are still a daydream for around 60 families living in Shivbari under Unakoti ADC Village, 8 km away from Kailashahar town.
The development initiatives of the BJP-led government are yet to reach out to more than 200 people belonging to the Reang community in the village which falls under the Gournagar Block.
Deprived of basic amenities and benefits of various government schemes, the villagers of Shiv Bari are struggling with their daily life.
Some of the families have been provided housing benefits under PMAY, but non-availability of facilities like drinking water supply and irregular electricity service now appeared major issues for the villagers.
According to the villagers, earlier the state government supplied drinking water through tankers but the service has been stopped for the last one month. In such a situation, the villagers are forced to collect water from rivulet. They have to walk miles to reach the rivulet and return home. Besides, the power supply is irregular-- electricity remains available only for 6-7 hours every day. This is the plight of the villagers in Shiv Bari after 77 years of independence and 50 years of Tripura’s statehood.
The villagers are hopeful that the present BJP-IPFT government would think about their struggle and make the basic amenities available in the village without any further delay.
