North Tripura to go for polling to East Parliamentary Constituency on April 26 amid tight security

Dharmanagar, April 24: With the end of the campaign on Wednesday for the polling to East Tripura parliamentary constituency, the North Tripura district is making a thorough preparation for the polling scheduled to be held on April 26 next.
Two hours before the end of the poll campaign, the District Magistrate for North Tripura district Debapriya Bardhan on Wednesday chaired a meeting with the journalists and representatives of various media houses here in the conference hall of the DM office.
Interacting with the reporters, the DM informed that the polling personnel accompanied by the security personnel will disperse with EVMs, VVPATs and other poll materials from different locations of Bir Bikram Institution ground in Dharmanagar, Panchayat Samiti office premise in Panisagar and Kanchanpur Higher Secondary School premise on Thursday to reach the polling booths.
He further informed that section 144 will be in force from Wednesday 5 PM to April 27 6 AM. Only CAPFs, police, media persons, election staff, general passengers and business persons engaged to the election duty will be allowed to travel within 200 meters of each polling booth, he told reporters.
District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty, who also remained present in the media interaction programme on Wednesday said that police and paramilitary forces are on strict vigilance across the district, while regular vehicle checking, hotel checking is underway to ensure peaceful voting.
He further said that strict action will be taken against those who create obstacles in voting as per the instructions of the Election Commission.
