Agartala, July 09: Secretary of Tripura’s Animal Resources Development department T.K. Debnath on Saturday cleared the confusion regarding the restriction on animal slaughtering/ sacrifice and said only ‘illegal’ slaughtering is prohibited.
He said, according to the notification, restrictions have been imposed on illegal killing/ sacrifice of cows, calves, camels and other animals while the enforcement authorities have been asked to take action against the offenders for violation of transport of animals.

Citing an advisory, he said as per Rule 3 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughter) Rules- 2001, no animal which is pregnant and has an offspring less than three months old, or is under 3 months of age, which has not been certified by a veterinary doctor that it is in a fit condition to be slaughtered, shall be slaughtered.
