Agartala March 12: With an aim to promote and popularize tea produced in Tripura, ‘Run for Tea’ campaign was held in the state capital on Tuesday under the joint initiative of Tra Board of India and Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC).
A good number of students and tea lovers took part in the run that was flagged off from the front of Bir Chandra State Library led by Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy, Minister for Industry and Commerce Santana Chakma, TTDC Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh among others.
Addressing the program Minister Tinku Roy hailed the BJP led government for taking care of the ‘overall welfare’ of the tea garden workers and their families.
He said, “Development of any sector is possible through development of the people associated with it. Similarly, it is the BJP government that has ensured the welfare of the tea garden workers, their families because of which Tripura’s tea sector has seen drastic development in recent years”.
“Starting from an increase in wages, the present state government has ensured access to basic facilities including houses, lands, water, electricity and ration cards”, he added.
Minister for Industry and Commerce Santana Chakma while addressing the gathering said, “The aim behind organizing such a program is to enhance the sale of tea through promoting and popularizing Tripura tea besides making the people aware about its health benefits”.
Mentioning the Tripura- made ‘Tripureshwari Tea’ Chakma said, “Tripura tea is not any less in quality than other tea brands. We must focus on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s quotes, ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Self-Reliance’. Using state made tea will help the state grow stronger economically and also help in achieving the target of international trade in future”.
Meanwhile, Chairman TTDC mentioned the drastic changes in the department in recent years.
He said, “Demand for Tripura tea has grown in recent days. Also, exporting to Bangladesh has been raised”.
He also urged the state government to extend a helping hand in popularizing the beverage across the country and abroad.
