Agartala Oct 20: A section of 10,323 terminated teachers on Thursday launched an indefinite fast-unto-death sit-in protest demonstration in Orient Chowmani area of the capital city demanding permanent solution to their problems.
Talking to the media persons, initiators of the movement amid 10,323 teachers said, “We have waited for a long time for the state government to take action to fulfill its promise made to us of restoration of our services. But sadly nothing has been done so far. On several instances we met the ministers and also knocked on the door of courts but despite assurances we got nothing”.
The teachers added,”We are left with no other option but to launch this peaceful agitation that will continue till our demands are met”.
Citing the incident of suicide committed by a tribal 10,323 teacher by jumping at railway track, few days back, the sacked teachers said, “The political parties are trying to make politics out of our situation. But our families are going through severe hardships. Already 142 among us have died, but the state government and its administration has no sympathy for us”.
The retrenched teachers further questioned the statement made by education minister Ratan Lal Nath on 10,323 teachers getting JRBT jobs adding that, “If the results of JRBT has not been published yet even after 14 months from the date of examination, how is the education minister sure that many 10,323 teachers’ got jobs under JRBT”?
Notably the chief minister Dr Manik Saha had invited the representatives of retrenched teachers for discussion over their condition and demand. Having apprised himself of the totality of the case Dr Manik Saha had assured the delegation of teachers that he would call them for the next round of discussion after ‘Durga Puja’ but no invitation has come so far.
Meanwhile, TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman met renowned lawyer Kapil Sibal in Delhi along with representatives of 10,323 sacked teachers to discuss the issue of their unjustified dismissal from service and demand for reinstatement.
