Agartala Nov 26: Retrenched from services, 10,323 teachers who are on hunger strike for more than six weeks till date have set a deadline of November 30 for the state government to solve the matter.
The agitating teachers announced to start vigorous protests across the state if the government doesn’t take the matter seriously.
Talking to the media persons, one of the leaders of 10,323 sacked teachers group said, “Now it is quite clear that our jobs were not gone for the Supreme Court’s verdict. By RTI it is clear that only a minimum number of teachers lost their jobs and government must find a solution for them too”.
“You all know that when the Left Front was in power, the High Court of Tripura declared our jobs to be illegal. In the judgement, there is no mention of 10,323”, he added.
The teachers on hunger strike further said, “We lost our jobs due to the ignorant attitude of the higher officials of the Education and Law department as the jobs of as many as 38 people were challenged. Later Tripura saw a political change of guard, a new political party with a promise to resolve our problem was set at the helm of power but we did not see any change. We want our services in schools to be resumed. But even after more than one month of hunger strike the state government seems to have no concern”.
Reacting to education minister Ratan Lal Nath’s tall claims about termination of 10,323 teachers the agitating sacked teachers on hunger strike asked Ratan Lal Nath to show evidence of his statement.
“Our education minister says that we do not belong to his department anymore. We want to remind him that he is also the Law Minister of the state and so he must not forget that if we were terminated his department must have given us individual termination letters”, said one of the agitating teachers.
Stressing that their jobs had never gone, the retrenched teachers demanded individual termination letters or reappointment in teaching posts.
Meanwhile, chief minister Dr Manik Saha has taken a compassionate and rational stand over the contentious issue and also met with a delegation of the 10,323 teachers.
The chief minister said that the sacked 10,323 teachers had been victims of injustice which needed to be corrected, clearly indicating that he is moving in the direction of correcting the error made earlier.
On the other according to information from highly placed sources, despite chief minister Dr Manik Saha’s positive move towards the sacked 10,323 teachers and an attempt to solve the issue, a creeping conspiracy is on to sabotage the initiative.
