Agartala July 06: Under the initiative of the Department of Information and Culture the 122nd birth anniversary of Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee was celebrated in Agartala. The tribute ceremony was held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, AMC Mayor Deepak Majumder and many other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma said, “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, is not a just slogan of any political party but the culture of India has a long association with this. This has been said in the Rig Veda. Not left, not right - the only principle is nationalism”. Jishnu Dev Varma said Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee was a believer of this principle. “A new India will be created with the dreams and thoughts of the present students. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said this in a message. Those who learn nothing from history shall remain deprived of many important aspects”, said Dev Varma.
“For those born into aristocratic families, politics does not stand as a profession for them. And for those who take politics and social service as a profession, the interests of the country and the people are utmost important factor for them. The countrymen will forever remember those who showed direction in the freedom struggle”, said Minister Sushanta Chowdhury adding that the contribution of Bharat Kesari Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who has sacrificed his life for the sake of the country's integrity and sovereignty, is no less than that of other scholars.
