Charilam May 07: In an early Tuesday morning mishap, an 18- wheeler lorry carrying tiles from Agartala to Udaipur met with an accident at Puran Bari Bridge in Charilam.
According to eyewitness accounts, the lorry’s container detached from the vehicle, crashing through the bridge’s railing and plummeting into the abyss below.
The impact of the falling container caused significant damage to the bridge infrastructure, leaving a gaping hole in the railing.
Additionally, the container’s descent disrupted the water supply in the surrounding area. Drinking water pipes were shattered upon impact, resulting in a complete halt of water service to Netaji Colony, Puran Bari and Hapajira Mora.
Local authorities are currently assessing the situation and working to repair the bridge.
Meanwhile, Nantu Shil, a resident of the area, spoke to the media, providing further details about the incident.
“At around 4:00 am in the morning we ran to the spot after hearing a loud banging noise. Later, we discovered that the entire water connection has been disrupted”, he said.
Investigations into the cause of the container detachment are underway, and commuters are advised to seek alternative routes until repairs are completed.
