Kalyanpur, June 22 : Durga Charan Debabarma, Range Officer of Kalyanpur Forest Department and Suvaranshu Bhattacharya, Acting OC of Kalyanpur Police Station recovered some stolen timber on Wednesday morning that was being transported by bicycle. The timber was seized from a place adjacent to the Makhan Lal Bridge in Kalyanpur. Two persons namely, Satyajit Devvarma and Rakhal Debbarma were arrested. According to Police sources, the detained are just carriers of stolen timber who smuggle timber at the risk for a small sum of money. The two persons arrested on Wednesday were charged under Sections 41, 42 and 53 (A) of the Forest Act of 1927 without filing any case with the police. They were later released on a bond of five thousand rupees per person. However, intellectuals raised question over the arrest of prime smugglers who are continuing business showing thumbs to the concerned administration.
