2 wanted thieves detained for looting temple in Melagarh

Sonamura, Feb 25: Police of Melagarh police station on Tuesday nabbed two wanted thieves identified as Mithun Namah and Ranjit Das from their house at Pongai Bari Village over looting Ramthakur Seva Mandir at Melagarh on February 19 last.
After a thorough access to the CCTV footage of the temple, police managed to nab the looters, who were also accused of lifting valuables and money from different parts of Melagarh. Police led by OC of Melagarh Police Station Debashish Saha and Melaghar Municipal Council Executive Officer, Deputy Magistrate and Collector Animesh Debnath with a good number of TSR forces raided the house of two thieves in Poangbari village and nabbed them.
Both the accused were sent to the court on Tuesday, where the police sought police remand for them.
There has been panic among the people and traders of Melagarh bazar for the past many days following frequent looting incidents. Police recovered some valuables and cash amounting to Rs 31,500 from the nabbed thieves.
Although police is yet to nab the masterminds behind the looting incident, further interrogation of the nabbed thieves is expected to reveal the faces behind the incidents.
