33rd Manipuri language day celebrated with fervor in capital

Agartala, August 20: The 33rd Manipuri Language Day, a day commemorating the inclusion of the Manipuri language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution on August 20, 1992 was celebrated in Agartala on Tuesday.
The festivities began with a vibrant rally that started in front of the Muktadhara Auditorium and passed through various streets before culminating back at the auditorium. The event was organized by the Department of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages.
The formal inauguration of the celebration was led by Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, who was joined by Ratnajit Debbarma, Director of the Department of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages, and N.C. Sharma, Director of the Department of Education, among other dignitaries.
Following speeches by various speakers emphasizing the importance of the Manipuri language and its cultural heritage, a cultural program featuring Manipuri performances was held, along with a Manipuri poets’ conference.
