Agartala Jun 26: Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma emphasized the need to protect forest land and resources on Wednesday as he inaugurated the 75th State-Level Forest Festival held at the Kulai HS School grounds.
The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including MLAs Chittaranjan Debbarma, Manoj Kanti Deb, Paul Danshu, Sapna Das Pal, Nandita Debbarma Reang and Forest Department officials.
Minister Debbarma highlighted that while humans cannot create forests, it is their responsibility to safeguard these natural ecosystems.
He expressed concern over the destruction of forests due to various factors and urged citizens to actively participate in tree plantation programs.
On July 5, the state will plant 5 lakh saplings as part of this initiative, he said.
The Forest Minister also emphasized strict measures against forest land destruction and resource smuggling.
He said, “The Forest Department has devised plans to enhance livelihoods, with a focus on sustainable forest management”.
Chief Conservator of Forests, Sashi Kumar, welcomed attendees and highlighted the historical significance of Vanmahotsav, which has been celebrated since 1950 to maintain environmental balance.
The festival featured an engaging cultural program with students from Kulai HS school and local artists participating. As part of the celebration, the Forest Department distributed various tree saplings.
