Agartala, Nov 26: Activists of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) organized a ‘Ra Bhawan Abhiyan in Agartala on Saturday commemorating the second anniversary of the Farmers’ agitation demanding the withdrawal of three Farm bills. The SKM activists also protested against the ‘breach of assurance’ by the Modi-led Government in addressing the several demands of the farmers.
The protest march started from Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala and police personnel stopped the procession near the Gandhi statue as they were proceeding towards the Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum on 8-point demand to the President of India through the Governor.
A 6-member delegation led by veteran AIKS leader Pabitra Kar went to submit the memorandum to the Governor today.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha, formed in November 2020, is a coalition of over forty Indian farmers' unions to coordinate country-wide agitation against the three Farm bills initiated in September 2020.
Speaking about the purpose of the programme, CPM MLA Bhanu lal Saha said, the Modi-led government after coming under pressure owing to the farmers’ agitation withdrew the three Farm Bills. However, along with withdrawing the Farm Bills, farmers also made several other demands like Act for MSP etc which were assured to be addressed, but still remain unaddressed. For this reason, the SKM is conducting Raj Bhawan Abhiyan on the 2nd anniversary of the farmers’ agitation to create pressure on the government for fulfilling the pending demands, Saha said.
Among others, CPM leaders Radha Charan Debbarma, Aghore Debbarma and others spoke and explained the significance of the movement.
