Agartala, Sept 04: A delegation of Airport Authority of India inspected the non-operational Kailashahar Airport at Unakoti district of Tripura on Monday.
The 11-member delegation including operation and technical experts took stock of the present status of the runway and other facilities.
According to the visiting AAI officials, the works for resuming service from the Kailashahar Airport will be done in two phases and the runway will be renovated in the first phase for small aircraft.
The delegation included three officials from Delhi, three from Guwahati and five from Agartala.
Joint General Manager of NE region Debdulal Chowdhury, Joint General Manager (Civil) Tapas Kumar Dey, AGM civil headquarters Manoj Bhardwaj, Senior Manager (CNS) Dibyojyoti Paul and Chief Security Officer and Land in-charge, Agartala S.K. Ray were among the officials.
According to official sources, air service provider- Alliance is ready to start operation from Kailashahar Airport with small aircraft.
The AAI officials along with the officers of SDM office and Tehsil in Kailashahar measured the land of the airport; they stayed there for over three hours.
They also held a meeting with the District Magistrate, Unakoti at the conference hall of the DM office.
After formation of the BJP-IPFT government in 2018, the initiative was taken to resume flight services from the Kailashahar Airport. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury have been making sincere efforts for the same.
The people of Unakoti district are very happy as the state government took initiative to revive the Kailashahar airport which remained non-operational since 1992. Once the services are resumed, it will be a major boost to connectivity and tourism in the state.
