Dharmanagar Aug 23: Approximately 33 Kani fertile lands along the bank of Kakri River in North Tripura district that play a crucial role in rice production for the state have been submerged for four days due to heavy flooding.
Around 250 Barga farmers have been cultivating these lands for years. Recently each of them had spent at least Rs 12,000 for cultivating their own part of land.
However, the incessant rains for four continuous days have flooded the fields leading to massive devastation of their crops, leaving the farmers in distress.
As the floodwaters started receding from Thursday evening, the extent of the damage became evident.
The hardworking farmers are now in great peril, struggling to recover from the devastating impact of the flood.
The paddy fields have been completely destroyed, and only a few individuals can manage to cultivate small portions of their land with the remaining seedlings.
The majority of farmers now rely on government assistance for cultivation.
The affected farmers said, “Without any sort of government aid, we will be forced to face the grim prospect of going without food for an entire year or even contemplating suicide”.
