Dharmanagar, Aug 30: In response to the recent heavy rainfall and flooding that severely impacted the agricultural sector in North District, Dr. Dhruvajyoti Pal, Deputy Director of the North District Agriculture Department, has announced crucial relief measures for the affected farmers on Friday. During his visit to the flooded regions on August 26, last Dr. Pal assessed the damage and confirmed that approximately 1,200 to 1,400 hectares of farmland have been severely affected by the excessive rainfall, which measured around 337 mm in the third week of August.
To aid the recovery, Dr. Pal revealed that seeds would be distributed to the impacted farmers from the Churaibari Seed Center and other community nurseries. These seeds, sourced from the National Seed Certification Agency, are expected to arrive within the next few days. The department is also implementing the Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) system to assist in restoring the damaged fields. Dr. Pal assured that all necessary steps are being taken to help farmers recover from the losses and ensure that future harvests are not compromised.
