AIDWA holds protest; demands complete ban on child labour

Agartala June 01: Leaders and activists of All India Democratic Womens’ Association, Tripura State Committee took to the streets of the capital city on Thursday demanding a complete ban on child labour across the state of Tripura.
Demanding the state government and its concerned authorities to strongly act towards controlling the general pool of child labour power in the market, the leaders of the organization said, “With the Covid and post Covid situation the engagement of small children in various works have risen to a great extent”.
“A reason behind the same is also the deteriorated economic condition especially where the poorer section of the society is finding hard to earn themselves two times meal under the reign of the BJP-led state and central government”, she said.
The women leaders added, “Using children for commercial purposes in any industry, engaging them as per day labourers in tea stalls and construction sites must be banned both in order to protect childhood and also for the purpose of universalizing formal education”.
The other demands raised by the left women organization includes, security and livelihood for orphan children including those who beg in the streets, to stop feticide, to increase employment opportunity, etc.
