Agartala, July 12: The Tripura state unit of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) pressed for a five-point charter of demands and tabled a memorandum with the director of Agriculture on Tuesday.

The demand include – To ensure that the department is made suitable to solve the problems of the farmers of the state, filling up of vacancies in the department, ensure adequate provision of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides for the farmers, ensure restriction of black marketing and smuggling of fertilizers and pesticides on an urgent basis and others.

The farmers’ body also demanded the government to bring the farmers under the coverage of the SRI method of production of paddies.

The AIKS also apprised that earlier during the time of COVID pandemic and after the pandemic, several discussions were held with the department regarding the issues of solving the long-term problem of the farmers.
