All GPs, ADC villages in Tripura to be made ODF plus in three years: DWS Minister

Agartala, Sept 20: All the ADC villages and Gram Panchayats in Tripura would be made Open Defecation Free plus, said Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Sushanta Chowdhury.
The DWS minister, who launched state-level Swachhta Pakhwada (Phase-II) under the Swachh Bharat Mission- Gramin at Agartala Town Hall, said the programme would be implemented in 400 ADC villages and Gram Panchayats in the first and second year and the remaining villages and gram Panchayats would be covered in the third year.
He stressed on the need for generating awareness among the public representatives and common people to achieve the target. Chowdhury also emphasized on proper monitoring of solid and liquid waste management.
The Swachhta Pakhwada (Phase-II) was launched in 2019 with the goal to reinforce ODF behaviours and focus on providing interventions for the safe management of solid and liquid waste in villages.
The DWS minister also said, Tripura’s achievement crossed the national average in terms of providing drinking water connections to households under Jal Jeevan Mission. He called for giving equal importance in creating water sources and conservation of water.
He also said, the people’s representatives at every level and the officers need to work actively to ensure no actual beneficiary is deprived under ‘Prati Ghore Sushasan’ campaign.
Secretary of DWS department Kiran Gitte and Engineer-in-Chief Shyamlal Bhowmik were also present in the inaugural ceremony.
In the second phase of the programme, Prof. Arunabha Majumder, Emeritus Professor of Jadavpur University, and Chandicharan Dey, co-ordinator of Ramakrishna Mission Lokasiksha Parishad, were present. Director of DWS department Rajib Majumder delivered the welcome address.
