Dharmanagar, Jan 02: Serious allegations of fraud have surfaced against Shrestha Eye Hospital, located on Jail Road in Dharmanagar, operated under the Maa Sharada Trust. Patients have accused the hospital, managed by Dr. Sandipak Roy, of unethical practices and exploitation.
Local resident Krishna Nag Chowdhury narrated his ordeal, alleging deceit by the hospital authorities. Chowdhury stated that on December 19, last he booked an appointment via phone and visited the hospital in the afternoon, only to be ignored despite a lengthy wait. Frustrated, Chowdhury returned the next day and paid a registration fee of ₹300. After an eye examination, he was advised surgery costing ₹34,000, to which he agreed, paying ₹500 as an advance.
The hospital scheduled Chowdhury’s surgery for December 22. On the day of the operation, Krishna paid the full ₹34,000 but was shocked when the hospital demanded an additional ₹1,100 for a blood test. Upon questioning this charge, as it wasn’t part of the agreed package, Chowdhury allegedly faced rude behavior from the staff. The hospital then refunded his money, issued a discharge slip without admitting him, and forced him to leave, Chowdhury added.
Deeply humiliated, Krishna Nag Chowdhury has called for justice to prevent others from facing similar exploitation. The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Dharmanagar, with demands for accountability and strict action against the hospital authorities.
