Agartala, May 03: The Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder accompanied by the Municipal commissioner Dr. Sailesh Kumar Yadav and officials on Wednesday visited the ongoing construction site of the Howrah River Development project to review the works and said that the construction work is going on full swing and is expected to be completed by one and half year next.

Briefing the reporters regarding the objective of this project, the Mayor said that the project worth Rs. 101 crore is taken up under the Smart City Mission with an aim to protect the Howrah River from pollution, saving the Agartala city from flood and preventing erosion of the river bank.

The project includes the provision for adequate sanitation and solid waste management facilities, development of event area, market area, amusement park, riverfront walkway and parking facilities, he told reporters.

He also informed that the project work is taken up to arrest solid and liquid waste disposal by developing sewage and solid waste management system.

The Howrah River Front Development project will also redefine the identity of Agartala as a tourist destination, he added and sought cooperation from the local dwellers.
