Agartala, Jan 29: It all started with a big bang and emotional explosion, but it seems that it is ending with an emotional whimper for Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and this resulted in utter chaos near his palace in Agartala on Sunday.
Emotionally charged Pradyot Kishore demanded a written assurance for his Greater Tipraland demand. After a number of parleys with different leaders of BJP and other Political parties, he demanded the Government of India to issue the assurance.
He found no takers for his demand among the political parties. And, with the Model Code of Conduct in place, obtaining written assurance for this from the Government is out of context.
Returning home, he announced to go solo and soon will announce the candidate list. He knew releasing the candidate list will open Pandora's Box – and ultimately, that is what happened today.
On Saturday midnight, TIPRA Motha released a list of 20 candidates and it was said, another list would be released today. In the first list, candidates for 12 ST seats were announced. CEM Purno Chandra Jamatia and his deputy Animesh Debbarma were among the notables. Besides, the party also announced candidates for two SC seats and six general seats.
Hectic discussions among the TIPRA Motha leaders and commotion among the supporters were hallmarks of Sunday as people impatiently waited for the final list. In the late evening today, another list of 10 candidates was released including candidates for three ST seats, one SC seat and the remaining six for general seats. So far, TIPRA Motha announced candidates for 30 seats including 15 ST seats.
The leaders, perplexed at the day’s proceedings, told the media that no more candidate list would be released – however, soon it was found they were preparing another list of 10 candidates. The intriguing fact is that TIPRA Motha leaders found it tough to find out candidates for 20 ST seats at one go and this may have a serious consequences for the top leaders of the party in coming days.
