Authorities took to the streets to stop use of plastic.

Dharmanagar/Amarpur July 02: Awareness on use of plastic was raised on Saturday under the initiative of Dharmanagar MLA and Municipal Council in compliance with the central government's restrictions. Deputy Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen, social activist Shyamal Nath, Chief Executive Officer of Municipal Council L Darlong, Vice Chairperson of Municipal Council Manju Nath and other elected members were present on the occasion. Notably as per the order of the central government, the directive on the use of one-time plastic has come into effect from July 1. Accordingly, various states have been conducting awareness camps to educate the people about the bad aspects of plastic use. As part of this, on Saturday, under the leadership of the Deputy Speaker, people in different parts of Dharmanagar were reminded about the ill effects of using one-time plastic.
Similar awareness campaign was also carried out in Amarpur on Saturday. Amarpur Nagar Panchayat officials took to the streets to stop the use of banned plastic carry bags. Officials urged every shop in the city to refrain from using plastic carry bags. On Saturday afternoon, Amarpur Nagar Panchayat Assistant Executive Officer Hirapad Debnath along with other Nagar Panchayat workers visited small and big shops in different parts of the city including Amarpur Bazar and instructed to stop the use of plastic bags. Traders were warned of being fined on use of these plastic carry bags in the future.
Attempts are being made to keep the city clean and the environment free from pollution. Awareness programs are being conducted to make people aware that this plastic is extremely harmful to the soil and environment as it is not destroyed.
