Agartala July 10: Followers of Islam thronged mosques and Eidgahs to offer namaz in different parts of the State on Sunday. The Eid-al-Adha – the festival of sacrifice – was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across the State including Jampuijala, Belonia, and Boxanagar. Devotees offered prayers for global peace and brotherhood. The celebration was peaceful in the State. However, resentment was noticed at Boxanagar over the place of offering namaz.
Our Charilam correspondent adds: Devotees offered namaz in observance of the holy Eid-al-Adha at Jagaibari, Pramodnagar, Amarendranagar, Latiachhara, Hirapur and Guliraibari area under Jampuijala on Sunday. Maulana Zakir Hossain led the namaz at Jagaibari Eidgah.
Speaking to the media, the Maulana said the religious activities were accomplished without any trouble even as there were various confusing issues afloat. He prayed to let the Eid-al-Adha bring peace, brotherhood and unity to the State.
Our Boxanagar correspondent adds: Amidst usual religious zeal and respect, Eid-al-Adha, also known as bakhri Eid was celebrated in Boxanagar. People offered namaz at the local mosque. However, resentment among the devotees was palpable as Police did not allow them to offer namaz at the Eidgah where the Muslims were offering namaz since 1967. Police told the devotees the land – the Eidgah – is under the control of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), so offering namaz there is not permissible. This sparked resentment, however, senior Police officials assured the devotees to look into the matter and devotees agreed to shift to the mosque and prayed there.
Our Belonia correspondent adds: Followers of Islam offered namaz as part of the Bakri Eid celebration at Takia Mosque at Belonia Bonkar. On behalf of the Mosque, prayers were offered for global peace and brotherhood.
