Banamalipur MLA Gopal Chandra Roy attacked, warns of major protest

Agartala, August 20: The MLA of Banamalipur and former President of the Tripura Pradesh Congress, Gopal Chandra Roy was allegedly attacked in his own constituency on Tuesday morning. The attack took place in the College Tilla area of Agartala city. Roy said that a number of miscreants including Niranjan Saha, Narayan Saha, Sourav Bhattacharjee and Gourav Bhattacharjee nephew of Rajib Bhattacharjee along with eight other individuals attempted to assault him, about which he filed a case at the East Agartala Police Station.
Roy expressed grave concern for his safety, stating that the attackers warned him of future assaults if he continued to visit the area. The MLA has written to the Chief Minister, demanding strict action against the culprits and requesting immediate intervention to ensure his protection.
Roy said that the state which has been grappling with high unemployment rates, is now witnessing a growing sense of unrest. Roy condemned the central government for its failure to address these issues, stating that such an incident hasn't occurred in the state in the last 50 years.
If the attackers are not arrested within 24 hours, Roy warned of a larger protest movement. He even mentioned that if justice is not served, he would begin a strike in the state assembly.
