Dharmanagar, Jan 3: Dharmanagar police detained one Bangladeshi woman and her six-year-old son while others managed to escape during a raid on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided West Chandrapur area in Dharmanagar and set the woman, Nazma Begum (35) and her six-year-old son, Rubiul Islam. 

It was learnt that the Bangladeshi nationals sheltered at the home of Nasir Ali, a local resident.

Although three Bangladeshi nationals and the alleged Indian facilitator, Nasir Ali, fled before police arrived, Nazma admitted that Nasir helped them cross the border and provided shelter.

The incident has sparked concerns over the effectiveness of border security, as over a hundred Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in recent months across the state.
