BJP picks Rajib Bhattacharjee as RS candidate from Tripura

Agartala, Aug 20: Rajib Bhattacharjee, the incumbent state president of Bharatiya Janata Party, has been named party’s candidate for by-poll to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Tripura.
Bhattacharjee will contest the by-poll as the seat fell vacant following resignation of Biplab Kumar Deb, who later contested from West Tripura Lok Sabha seat and secured a landslide victory.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Bhattacharjee were in New Delhi at the time of finalizing the candidate. Soon after the announcement of the candidates from the central party, both Dr. Saha and Bhattacharjee arrived in the state.
Bhattacharjee was given a warm reception by the party Karyakartas at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport, Agartala on his arrival.
In his first reaction, Bhattacharjee said he is an ordinary Karyakarta and conveyed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president J.P. Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah for nominating him as the candidate to Rajya Sabha.
Bhattacharjee, who faced defeat in the 2023 assembly polls in Banamalipur assembly constituency, served the organization in various roles before becoming the state president on August 25, 2022. He achieved remarkable success as the state president in the party’s winning spree in Tripura.
The by-poll will be held on September 3 next.
