Ampi/Amarpur/Agartala: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders went to Ampi where clashes broke out between the BJP and TIPRA Motha supporters on Saturday. At least 15 persons were injured after alleged TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) supporters launched vicious attacks on BJP supporters who were holding Victory Rally at Ampi yesterday – the unruly TMP supporters also attacked the Ampi PHC where injured persons were undergoing treatment.
The BJP team, led by the party’s State president Rajib Bhattacharjee met the family members of the injured party supporters and shifted eight seriously injured persons to GB Hospital for better treatment. Among them, conditions three persons were stated to be critical.
The delegation team comprised state vice president Patal Kanya Jamatia, Pradesh president of Janajati Morcha Bikash Debbarma and MLA Ranjit Das. After returning back to Agartala, they submitted a detailed report to the State leadership and alleged TMP supporters launched the attack on the BJP supporters.
Meantime, a case was registered on behalf of the BJP against the attackers after identifying them.
Bhattacharjee dubbed the attack as ‘cowardly’ and strongly condemned it.
Patal Kanya Jamatia also came down heavily on the TMP supporters for attacking the BJP activists yesterday. She said aggressive TMP supporters created an ambience of fear and several seriously injured persons left the Hospital fearing further attacks.
“We are visiting the victims’ houses and trying to identify them so that they could be treated in GB Hospital”, Patal Kanya said.
She also alleged TMP supporters armed with ‘illegal weapons’ attacked the BJP supporters with an ‘attempt to murder’ mindset.
“When TMP supremo is in consultation with the top Union Home Minister and Chief Minister of the State, his supporters are creating mayhem unprovoked. It is happening because, supporters are increasingly becoming frustrated and the top leader has no control over the ground-level workers”, alleged a group of BJP supporters.
TIPRA Motha MLA of Ampi Pathan Lal Jamatia also visited the violence-hit Ampi today and blamed the Police for playing a partial role in favouring the BJP.
