Agartala, Nov 02: With barely four months left for the assembly elections in Tripura, the leader of opposition and former chief minister of the then Left front government – Manik Sarkar Wednesday claimed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gradually weakening with the exit of MLAs, who led the party sweep the 2018 assembly election and its alliance partner IPFT turning into zero.
Addressing a state conference of the All India Democratic Women Association (ADWA) state committee here at Agartala Town Hall on Wednesday, Sarkar said, “The party is gradually losing trust from the people of this state who are frustrated with the misrule of this BJP government.”
“The first instance of the party getting weakened came up with the change of chief minister ahead of the 2023 assembly election as the government under the leadership of the previous chief minister was unable to implement proper policy to rule the state. Thereafter, the MLAs started quitting the party with more in queue,” he claimed.
Manik Sarkar, also the CPI-M politburo member on Wednesday said that the situation of the BJP’s alliance partner IPFT is also worsening as the leaders who slogged for ‘Twipraland’ – separate state while joining the BJP to power in 2018, now joined separate tribal-based regional political party – TIPRA Motha and started slogging for ‘Greater Tipraland’.
He said, “Now what it stands for is that, the BJP is unable to hold its force which lead them win in 2018 with 50% vote shares. On the other hand, the people of this state are frustrated with this non-performing government. That way we have been seeing that the BJP started losing ground gradually.”
“In this situation, the BJP is now worried of using its bike-gang muscle powers and are now relying upon the police administration to misuse it. The BJP is now trying to maintain its dictatorship rule by using the police force, which perhaps is a sign of weakness,” he said, adding that the weakening of the ruling BJP party has brought an advantage for the oppositions to strengthen its movement against this ‘fascistic’ rule and bring another change in the state in the ensuing 2023 election.
He however encouraged the women leaders of the CPI-M party to fight united against the ‘dictatorial-rule’ of the BJP government by taking an advantage out of the situation, where the BJP is losing its ground. He said, “Women, who are now unsafe and are reeling under acute crisis under the rule of BJP can play a key role towards bringing a change and lead the state towards new direction.”
